How To Help

A Growing Need

The Whatcom Counseling & Psychiatric Clinic is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that champions the mental health needs of Whatcom County residents. With the help of its generous donors, the Clinic is committed to providing quality behavioral health care for all individuals, regardless of their financial resources, and to addressing the growing problems associated with untreated mental illness in our community.

Over the past two decades, Whatcom County has experienced unprecedented growth in the number of residents in need of mental health care. At the same time, federal and state health care programs have been dramatically cut.

According to the Whatcom County Health Department, untreated mental illness and chemical dependency disorders are overwhelming our criminal justice system and other public services. The tragic personal costs – and the cost to our quality of life in Whatcom County – are very real. They include homelessness, child abuse and neglect, crime, preventable disease and deaths, unemployment, and endless cycles of dependence on local public services and facilities.

The reality is that we as a community simply do not have the capacity or funding to meet the demand for mental health care in our region. Many of the most vulnerable residents in Whatcom County have nowhere to turn, especially children, among whom early intervention and treatment would result in the largest return on investment.

Now more than ever, the Clinic is turning to private support through donors to address this crisis. Whether you're considering making your first gift today or you already give regularly, every contribution represents an investment in Whatcom County’s families and community. Your contributions directly support the Clinic’s operation and help provide the resources the Clinic needs to maintain the highest standards of professional excellence and to assure access to mental health care for everyone.

Thank you for your valuable investment into bettering not only the lives of individuals, but the community as a whole.

Gift Planning

The Whatcom Counseling & Psychiatric Clinic is built on the commitment and support of people like you. Donors are a crucial link in providing residents in our community with the opportunity to overcome mental illness and create fulfilling lives. By funding general operations at the Clinic or contributing to the Rainbow Center, our donors make an immediate and profound difference.

There are many ways to tailor your contributions:

Annual and monthly contributions:  Sign up on our online donation page to contribute a monthly amount or make an annual donation. By taking this step, you will help the Clinic provide desperately needed services and life-changing treatment to everyone in our community.

Gift tributes and memorials:  Gift tributes are an excellent way to honor and remember an important person in your life. These gift-giving options can be created using our online donation page, or contact the Clinic directly at 360-676-2220 x 3398. Acknowledgement for the gift is given to both the donor and to whomever you designate – usually the person being honored, or in the case of a memorial gift, the person's family. In addition, the Clinic will provide a tax receipt for your donation.

Matching gifts:  Many companies will match charitable gifts dollar-for-dollar made by their current and former employees or board members, allowing you to double or possibly triple the value of your donation. Simply contact the Human Resources Department at your workplace for details and include any necessary forms with your donation to the Clinic.

Planned giving:  Including the Clinic in your estate planning is an excellent way to avail yourself of tax benefits while providing support for our valuable programs. Gifts can be donated in many forms, including:

  • Bequests
  • Charitable Remainder Trusts
  • Charitable Annuity Trusts
  • Retirement Assets
  • Life Insurance
  • Life Estate Agreements

By adding the Clinic to your estate plans, you can directly benefit the Clinic and our community with stable funding in the future. Your attorney and other advisors are the best resources to guide you through the estate planning process. Please contact Finance Director Jessica Staten at 360-676-2220 x 3398 for more information.
