Rainbow Recovery Center A safe and supportive environment for those on the path to recovery
Located in downtown Bellingham, the Rainbow Recovery Center is a recovery program designed to help mentally ill adults recover from the effects of their illnesses and reintegrate into the larger community.
Opened in 1997 and operated by the Whatcom Counseling & Psychiatric Clinic, the Center offers resources to help members meet their basic needs, such as meals, showers, laundry, mail, computer access, and human companionship. It also offers referrals for counseling and medication, as well as assistance in finding housing and employment. Meetings for members and staff are held every morning at 9:30 a.m. Various support groups and other special meetings occur throughout the rest of the day.
The Center is staffed by peer advocates and peer counselors – individuals who have themselves experienced mental illness and have undergone training to help others. Currently the Center has more than 500 members and serves more than 100 members daily. Membership is open to anyone who has a mental illness and is more than 18 years old.
The Center is funded by the North Sound Mental Health Administration, the United Way and Whatcom County. Funding is also provided through individual donations.
For more information, feel free to stop by the Center, which is located at 209 W. Holly St. in downtown Bellingham. The Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

At Rainbow, members have the opportunity to pursue their own recovery in collaboration with peers, advocates, staff, friends, and neighbors. Rainbow programs help members gain confidence by learning social and vocational skills. The Rainbow Recovery Center also aims to educate the broader community by raising awareness about mental illness.
